July 2023 Treatbox UK Reveal and Review

July has come around with its sunshine and floral blooms, the days are longer and warmer and everything seems brighter. I had eagerly waited for my delivery of a fabulous Treatbox filled with Beach themed goodies so I guessed from the Treatbox socials! As I open the box and remove the calendar print it tells me it’s time to relax with coastal bliss and carefree beach vibes. A mixture of treats and beach day items are inside including some Treatbox originals and items we have never seen before in the monthly boxes.

Thank you for joining me for this unboxing review today. If you would prefer to watch my unboxing video or would like to see it after this article then please head to any of my social media (links at the end).

What is inside the box for July 2023

July Calendar Print with a Shells Design
Treatbox Originals Packing List Card
Treatbox Originals Notepad Shell Design
Cotton Mini Bag “She Sells Sea Shells By The Sea Shore”
Gold Plated Starfish and Shell Anklet
White Leather-Look Sunglasses Case
Shell A6 Card / Print “Shell We Dance”
Shell A6 Postcard Print “Soul Full of Sunshine”
Shells on Cord Anklet / Bracelet
Craftmix Passionfruit Paloma Cocktail Mix 7g

My Opinion on this Box

What a beautiful box this month, the overall theme has been well executed throughout and every product is to a high standard, be it branded or a Treatbox original. There are also several items not yet seen before in the monthly Treatbox and this got me all excited, especially to receive items I had not yet reviewed.

My favourite items are definitely the Treatbox Original Shell design items such as the Notepad, A6 Cards and the Packing List. The shells are beautiful and really stand out across the range. Continuing on with the beach theme are the items associated with such, the anklets are both stunning in entirely different ways, a delicate gold plated chain with a starfish versus the natural shells on a cord. Very pretty and unusual too, ideal to wear during these summer months, and both to different tastes.

A glasses case is always useful to have, whether you plan to use it for regular glasses or sunglasses. Ideal for keeping in a day out bag for the summer or in your hand bag for general use.

There isn’t an item I don’t like, and I feel like we definitely got value for money in this July box. Hopefully the majority of people would have been excited by this months items like I was. With new products and a great theme it made for a well rounded box with positive beach vibes.

I look forward to making up my cocktail one evening so you’ll have to watch on my social media for that. Also keep your eyes peeled for social media updates featuring all the products from this July box.

I am now going to show you some more of my product photography that I did of each item.

June 2023 Treatbox UK Reveal and Review

Hello June!

And what a lovely few weeks of sunshine we have had here in the United Kingdom. We have been very lucky lately, though I think we could do with some rain now.

It’s time to Review the Treatbox for June, and I must say I really enjoyed unboxing this one. If you’d like to see my video then click on any of the Social Media links at the end of my blog post to find it.

The theme this month was Self Care amidst the chaos of Summer Life, with lots of Tropical Paradise images of Palm Trees used throughout the Treatbox originals and icons of sunshine too.

Let’s take a look at all of the items contained in the June box, there was certainly a pink theme going on as well as the palm trees. The pink makes me think of flamingos!

What was inside the June 2023 Box?

June Calendar Print
Treatbox Original Keyring “You Got This”
Treatbox Original Notebook “have a nice day” blank
Treatbox Original Socks “Good Vibes” in Pink
treatme Coconut Lip Balm Handbag Size 10ml
Gardners Cookie Biscuit with a Tropical Palm design
Miss Patisserie Shower Steam Block with Aromatherapy Scents 120g
Treatbox Original Adult Colouring Pages x 2 A4 “good vibes” & “one day at a time”

This month we received the Calendar Print, 6 items and 2 A4 Colouring Pages.
I think we had a nice mixture of things in different categories.

What is my honest opinion of the contents in this box?

Overall I think this is an excellent box with a good theme that was balanced throughout. I probably sound like a broken record with always loving the socks and the positive vibes that the boxes are known for. But I really love how this month we did indeed get a bit of everything. Something to eat, something to wear, something to use, something to do, something for our self care and something to give us a boost.

When Treatbox has a mixture of items like what I’ve mentioned above, the box flows well and the theme can easily be established. By having a wide range of things which include enjoying, using and doing, there is something for everybody. This month I am happy because I can enjoy every single item within the box and I have no need to gift away anything.

My favourite items this month are… everything! There hasn’t been an item I didn’t like.
I think the lip balm is lovely, I’ve been using it while the sun has been out and it made my lips soft.
The socks have also been worn already when it was cold the other evening, so comfy!
I am planning to enjoy the cookie biscuit this coming weekend so I will pop that on my social media when I tuck into that one!

I have put the notepad into my spares collection for now because I started a new journal a few weeks ago so it’s not needed at present but it will get used eventually. I really like the shower block, it smells lovely and I only opened it a little bit, I feel like it will go a long way actually, and although it says break it in half, I think quarters or even smaller would suffice.

I have coloured in one of the two adult colouring sheets so far, and I enjoyed doing it. And although I didn’t need another keyring in my life I do love this quote, and my son has sort of claimed it now anyway and has hung it in his bedroom currently.

Without a doubt one of the best boxes of the year so far, I look forward to trying out the remainder of the products as the weeks of June progress. Don’t forget to follow me on social media as I post product updates on there all the time too when I wear and use or finish an item.
What item is your favourite this month?

Time for some more of my photography!

April 2023 Treatbox UK Reveal and Review

Well here we are, halfway through April and I apologise that my product review is later than usual. Having done my video unboxing when I initially received my Treatbox in the post I was then busy with the Easter holidays and spending some much needed family time. But having this extra time before writing my review also gave me a chance however, to look at this months products in more detail.

April was a lovely Bee themed and happiness inspiring box for me. Loved it!

Let’s take a look now and remind ourselves what was inside it, I am sharing my honest opinions as always and all the photography is my own.

What was inside the April box?

Bee Themed!

April Calendar Print
Treatbox Original Bee Pin
Treatbox Original Printed Notepad Busy Bee A6
Treatbox Original Socks Bees and Hearts in honey beige
Treatbox Original A6 Print “she turned her can’t into cans & her dreams into plans”
Lapcos Honey Nourishing and Hydrating Face Mask 27ml
Tasty Mates Salted Caramel Sweets GF Vegan 54g
Bee Gold Plated Earrings with Crystal Wings

My Honest Opinion

I loved the theme this month, when you think of April you imagine rain showers or April flowers, but a Bee is a cute idea and I think of nature in abundance when I consider Bees, plus, who doesn’t love a cute little Bee?! The Bee and Honey theme was well executed throughout and I love how the Treatbox original products coordinated with each other as well.

Overall the quality of the products was excellent, we know our notepads and other Treatbox original stationery is printed to the highest quality, as are the TB original socks. I have yet to try the sweets or the face mask but that’s because I’ve had a really busy few weeks on Easter break. I have put the Bee pin on my jacket and the notepad is out on my table ready for my next list. I did find the font a little hard to read on the Print this month but perhaps I’m being picky. Did you read it okay? I will be sharing more pictures on Instagram of the products in use very soon.

My favourite items for April 2023 have been the notepad, socks, pin and earrings. I don’t usually wear jewellery in gold due to my skin complexion, however these earrings are stunning and far too nice to give away, so I hope to pair them with an outfit matching their calibre soon. Watch out for updates on my social media on all of the items you have seen revealed today.

What is your favourite item in this April box?

Here are some more of my photographs.

Thanks so much for reading this unboxing reveal and review today!

January 2023 Treatbox Reveal and Review

The brand new year has begun and the first Treatbox UK box of 2023 landed on my doorstep. I had a few days off over New Year spent with my family, and then I began blogging again at the end of the first week of January. This is why this post is a little later than I would usually do them, however I needed a much deserved rest, and less hours looking at my screens.
I hope your year has started off well! Thank you for joining me today!

So let’s get on to this unboxing! I was hoping for some of the usual “start of the year” items in this box, such as a Journal or Calendar or a Planner, and I also hoped for the possibility of new things that we had not yet seen as well!

And guess what? I wasn’t disappointed! If you would prefer to watch my unboxing video, then you can find that by clicking here… otherwise please continue as I unbox the January 2023 Treatbox!

What was inside the January box?

January 2023 Monthly Calendar Print
2023 Treatbox Original Bound Calendar
Sheet of Stickers for Organising and Reminding
Treatbox Original A5 Print “The new year stands before us…”

Treatbox Original Notebook “Notes” – Blank White Pages
Stationery Pen – Colour Picked at Random – I received a White Pen
Pink Iced Shortbread Biscuit “You Got This”

Pink Velvet Hair Scrunchie

Let us now take a closer look at the products that were inside for January 2023.

What is my Honest Opinion

A lovely box with a well thought out design this month, the dusky pink throughout and a theme of moving forward with the start of the new year. A mix of organisation items and Treatbox original stationery, combined with some treats with the biscuit to eat and the scrunchie to wear.

The Calendar is of excellent quality and I have created a cardboard stand for mine to stand up on my desk, so that I’m able to keep track of everything with ease as the weeks go on. (See image below).
My favourite items are the Calendar, Stickers and the Scrunchie, but all of the items this month are useful and of good product quality. I also like the positive quote on the print this month too, because I personally (as a writer) do see every new year as new chapters ready to be written.

To see the Treatbox UK products in use please follow me on social media as they will feature regularly all month in my photographs and videos. This January box has been a lovely start to the year, and I look forward to the next box in February.

Thank you for reading this unboxing blog post, I hope you have a lovely January.

product reviews as well as witnessing these items I just told you all about in use too.

The Best of Treatbox UK for 2022

A Look Back at the Treatbox Monthly Subscription Boxes for 2022…

Treatbox UK is a subscription box and gift service in the United Kingdom that have some incredible products including in house originals. I have been subscribed to the Treatbox monthly box service since April 2016, and both the boxes and my Review skills have improved vastly since those initial days! I have also introduced a monthly video unboxing to my social media too.

Over the years I have been subscribed there have been some excellently executed themes and some stand alone boxes that made my heart sing with joy when opening them. After so many years of reviewing, I realised that I had never looked back on a year and blogged about it, so I thought why not start with December 2022 and look back at this year.

There have been several stand out boxes this past year, of course my opinion may differ to others, so I thought I would write a blog post and revisit all of the boxes of 2022 and tell you which my top four are and why. I will also mention my favourite item in each box of the year too. So without further ado lets take a quick look, in a photographic sense, of the twelve boxes from this year.

December
November
October
September
August
July
June
May
April
March
February
January

My Top 4 Boxes

The boxes that I think have been the best overall for both product quality and theme have been the November, October, May and March boxes.
The items were a good mix in these four boxes and I have either worn or used the products multiple times since receiving them.
I love receiving products that we have not seen before, and during 2021 we saw too many of similar items duplicated. However 2022 introduced new things, and new Treatbox originals such as Prints, Keyrings, Pins and Stationery. There were also several brand collaborations this year, such as the Craft Kits with Make Arcade and Socks too!
I would say that overall the boxes of 2022 have been excellent quality, well rounded and a good mixture of products throughout the year with very few duplications.

My Top Products of the Year

December Box – Reindeer Socks / Hanging Decoration
November Box – Coaster / Bookmark / Pin / Cards
October Box – Autumn Socks / Pumpkin Craft Kit
September Box – Shell Trinket Dish / Pen / Notepads
August Box – Recipe Journal / Adult Colouring Sheets
July Box – Smile Socks / Handcream
June Box – Monthly Planner / Bracelet
May Box – Mindfulness Cards / Journal / Quartz Moon
April Box – Craft Kit Umbrella / Socks / Shopping List Pad
March Box – Silver Daisy Earrings / Pin
February Box – Heart Pink Socks / Bag
January Box – Amazonite Bracelet / Bookmark

There is a theme here, I love the socks that come in Treatbox, and I am a huge fan of the Stationery, Planners and Notebooks and the like too. Anything that allows me to be Creative is also a winner for me.

What Do I Hope To See in Treatbox UK in 2023

There are a few items that I would love to see stay inside Treatbox for 2023, these include more Craft Kits, different Self Care items and an edible item in every box (preferably Vegan). We don’t always get something to eat, but even if it were a single wrapped piece of chocolate, or a sweet, it would still be edible. As I have said in my unboxing videos a few times this year, I like to have the following;

Something to Keep, Something to Use, Something to Do, Something for Self Care, Something to Wear, Something to Eat, Something to Drink, Something to Gift and Something to Appreciate.

Do you like my motto? I believe that this is what I personally would like to see every month. I realise there are 9 thing in my motto, Treatbox contains anything from 6 to 10 items depending upon their value. Most of this year we have seen 8 items in a box.

What I love most from Treatbox are the Positive aspects, Socks, Scarves, Stationery and Craft Kits, so I would be more than happy to receive these items inside future boxes. Other items I would like to see in the coming boxes would be things like Emery Boards, Nail Art or Skin Art such as Tattoo’s or Stickers.
A yearly planner inside a box is also a great thing, I am not so much into diary writing these days but I journal and keep a weekly planner, as well as a monthly house calendar (so we know what is what). Useful items are the key to making boxes great, because they last far longer than the edible or drinkable item, we need a good mixture of items of singular use and enjoyment versus an item used all month long and beyond.

So in summary, more of the same like this year, a great variety and high quality items, interesting themes and of course the usual Treatbox original staples like the socks and stationery!

June box Planner

Thank you for reading this blog post today, sorry it’s a long one! And I do hope that you have enjoyed looking back at a whole year worth of Treatbox UK with me.

Wishing you all a Happy New Year, I cannot believe this is my final blog post of 2022 (or it would have been as I couldn’t submit it live as the website had issues) and I cannot wait to see what 2023 has in store! Hopefully more boxes and more product reviews! I also have some lifestyle things in the pipeline as well.

Have a great New Year!

How to Dress your Home for a Beautiful yet simple Autumnal look with Décor on a Budget

I love everything about a crisp Autumn day, the colours of nature in the trees, the warm sunshine and the cooler air. Wrapping up in warm clothing and taking a walk in the countryside cannot be beaten at this time of year. But how can you bring that beauty of Autumn into your home in simple yet beautiful ways and on a strict budget! Well here is how I do it!

Throw – Dunelm

My Items I bought on a Budget for Autumn Décor over the last few years

Glitter Pumpkins – Poundstretcher – £1
Plastic Light Up Pumpkin – B&M – £4
Artificial Autumn Leaves – The Works – £1 a bag (50 leaves per bag)
Wreaths, Craft Items and Wooden Pieces – The Works / eBay – 50p – £5
Autumn Fleece Throws – Asda £6 / Tesco £6 / Dunelm £7+
Artificial Pumpkins / Pine Cones / Acorns – eBay – £4-£12 depending upon how many pieces you want and which country you decide to order them from (China prices are cheaper but you’ll wait around 3 weeks for the delivery).
Autumn Cushions – Autumn Designed Cushions or Cushion Covers – Amazon / eBay / Dunelm £3 – £9

(Some of the items in my pictures I have purchased from years 2020, 2021 and 2022 and only similar items may now be available from their respective sellers).

Glitter Pumpkins – Poundstretcher
My delightful Cat in a Scarf Cushion from Next from 6 years ago.

I love nothing more than to cuddle up on my sofa with my cushions and fleece throws, getting cosy as the cold nights draw in. I have a whole box filled with throws, I have some for every season. It’s the turn of my Autumn throws like the one above, it’s navy and orange design emanating the colours of autumn.

Autumn Basket

I used an old wicker basket that I had laying around to create an Autumnal display. Inside I placed artificial leaves, pumpkins and acorns, with some pine cones. Take some leaves and gently slot them in around the outside, so that no matter what angle you look across at it you will see an autumnal theme.
You can use any spare Basket or even a Box you have laying around, paint it if you wanted to! And any size works too, the smaller your item the less things you’ll need to fill it up.

Autumn Basket from above
Light-Up Battery Pumpkin Clear – B&M (2021)

Autumn Wreath

An autumn wreath is simple to make from some of the items you’ve already bought for decorations like the pine cones and artificial leaves. You can also go on a nature walk, gather items off the floor (do not remove them from hedges or trees) and dry them out on a towel over the course of the next week. My wreaths are from The Works and eBay. You can buy them as Metal, Rattan or Wicker, but I try to buy plant based ones where they are sustainably grown and made when possible.
To make a wreath take your circle base and then using a glue gun attach a selection of artificial leaves as a base layer for your other items like pine cones and artificial pumpkins. Leave it to dry for at least a day before hanging it up, or lay it flat as a centre piece of a table for example. You could stand a vase in the centre of it to continue the theme.
I used some Wooden items as decorations for my indoor only wreath as well, which I picked up from The Works over the past two years. The Owls are a particular favourite of mine.
I am proud with how both of my wreaths have turned out. See my images below.

Homemade Wreath I made 2021

My outdoor wreath is a metal ring that I have glued a selection of items including the artificial leaves and pumpkins, small pine cones and artificial acorns.

Homemade Wreath I made 2022

Thank you for reading this Lifestyle blog post today, I hope you have enjoyed looking at my Autumn décor and I do hope I have inspired you to decorate your own home – even if it is on a strict budget like mine has been over the last few years!

Your children may also enjoy making some Autumn Craft pictures with dried autumn leaves that can be painted and printed, or simply glue a nature picture together in autumn glory and all the colours you can find. It’s so easy to do a nice printed picture using dried shapes from nature and you can even display it in your home after as part of the seasons décor.

September 2022 Treatbox UK Reveal and Review

Hello September! And Hello to you!

Welcome to Severn Wishes Blog where I, Sabrina, regularly review a wide variety of things such as this Treatbox! This subscription box has been going for years and I buy one every month as a gift to myself. I review said box here on my website and showcase the products on my social media platforms too, it’s known as Sabrina’s Reveal and Review.

So what’s inside the September box? Well this month our Calendar Print reads “holding on to the last bit of summer” and I am so glad that they did! I’m not ready to admit that it’s over with for yet another year.

A beautiful lilac tissue paper and a white heart sticker leads me into unwrapping a box filled with pretty pieces and Treatbox UK originals. Let’s see exactly what’s inside…

Treatbox Original Calendar Print ~ September 2022
Treatbox Original Blank Page Notebooks with Seaside Design x 2 A5
Treatbox Original Item – Pink Jewellery Bag with Pearl Beads and Gold Chain
Oh K! Age Defence Hand Mask with Bakuchiol
Shell Shaped Trinket Dish in White and Gold
Stationery ~ Rose Gold and Pearl Topped Pen
Daily Concepts Multi-Functional Mother of Pearl Soap Sponge

Here are some more of my photographs!

What Are My Thoughts?

Overall this is a very nice box filled with several items that we have not had before from previous months. The necklace in its own original Treatbox bag, the original designed notepads and the trinket dish are stand out items for me due to their quality and appearance.

The other items are also good and I look forward to trying out the hand mask this month and using the pen. I tried it out already and it’s black ink inside and writes nicely and smoothly.

I really look forward to giving the sponge a go as well! Keep a look out on my social media images for the products in use over the coming weeks.

Thank you for joining me for another Reveal and Review from me, Severn Sabrina!

August 2022 Treatbox UK Reveal and Review

Hello August!

Are you having a good start to the month?

The sun is shining and it’s the summer holiday in my house!

Time to unbox the August 2022 Treatbox UK with me!

If you would prefer to watch the video please head to my Instagram or Facebook page.

So what did the August box offer us for this month of treats?

Treatbox Original Calendar Print
Treatbox Original Colour Me In Pages x 2 A4
Treatbox Original Item – Bound Recipe Journal Notebook
Oh K! Anti-Blue Light Sheet Masks x 2 with Ginger and Antioxidants
Gardners Cookie / Biscuit – “Tea + Biscuit Club” Quote – Vegan
Treatbox Original Item – Enamel Pin Badge “Star Baker”
Treatbox Original Item – Drinks Coaster “Time for Me”
Miss Patisserie “Happy” Essential Oils Shower Steamer Block

Here are some more photographs!

What is my Honest Opinion on the items in this August box?

We have some of the usual items in this box which include (of course) the Calendar Print and a biscuit which are regular in Treatbox and are very nice. I also see there is a Mask again this month but it’s actually two separate masks which is slightly better value as we can do two this month, or invite a friend around for a pampering session!

The Treatbox original products are unique and are really in keeping with the baking theme this month, which include the Drinks Coaster and the Recipe Journal. As someone who does a lot of cooking that is really handy! The Star Baker Pin is very fun and I have a friend that this is perfect for, I will be gifting this to her because she bakes far more and far better than I do! Ha!

The set of two colouring sheets are fun and are back this month. I always find Adult Colouring to be calming for me. Check out my social media for updates on these as I fill them in as the weeks progress…

What do we have left to talk about? Well if you watched my unboxing video on August 2nd you will know that I started having an allergic reaction to the Shower Steamer block during my recording, orange is something I became allergic to a couple of years ago and I could no longer eat or drink this without feeling poorly. When I smelt the shower block my nose instantly started to run and my eyes started to itch. Sadly I had to wrap this product up in the Treatbox plastic packaging as soon as I hit the stop button. I quickly photographed it later that day, before wrapping it again and giving it to my mother so that it was removed entirely from my house. Such a shame because I liked how the product sounded in principal! I hope my mother enjoys it!

So what are the best items this month? I really think the quality of the Treatbox UK original products are excellent and they are items that can be continually used and enjoyed and are also useful. The coaster will brighten your day, the journal is ready for whenever recipe inspiration strikes, and the rest of the items can be enjoyed over the course of the next four weeks. Keep checking my social media for individual item reviews. I will let you know how I get on with the mask!

Thank you very much for joining in for another Reveal and Review from Severn Sabrina!

Wishing you a great August month! Don’t forget to follow me on social media for more updates and individual product reviews too.

July 2022 Treatbox UK Reveal and Review

Hello July!

I hope this blog post finds all of you well as you’re reading this!

So we are just over half way through the year now and it’s time
for the July Treatbox UK Reveal and Review.

Thank you for joining me for this unboxing!
It’s time to look at the products in this months box and for me to review them for you!

If you would prefer to watch my video then head to my Facebook or Instagram.

The July box features TB OR – Treatbox Original Products
only available by ordering from Treatbox UK.

What’s Inside the July Treatbox UK?

July Calendar Print

TB OR A6 Print “sunshine and happy days”
Smiley Face Socks
TB OR Greetings Cards – 2 Cards for Passing on the Sunshine
Merci Hand Cream in Hello Sunshine scent 30ml
Candy Kittens – Tropical Mango flavour 54g
The Happy Newspaper by Emily Coxhead issue 26

Tea Pop Gourmet Tea – Caramel flavour (in my box but may vary)

My Honest Opinion of the July box

What a box of sunshine! When I opened up the Treatbox and I saw the theme was sunshine and happy vibes it was just what I needed to boost my week. We had socks again and I was really happy about that because I love the quality of the socks! They are soft and cute as usual with smiley faces on this time! And what I also loved was the fact that we can pass on the happiness and sunshine from our July box by sending the Treatbox UK cards on to someone we care about!

The Merci hand cream smells lovely like summer flowers on a sunny day, a light cream that melts into your hands and comes in a handbag size to boot! Perfect for use all year round! It made my skin feel very soft after I used it a couple of times.

The Candy Kittens sweets are Vegan, Palm Oil Free and are now Carbon Neutral too! You get 54g to enjoy of this treat with natural fruit flavours in Tropical Mango. Yum!

We have the Happy Newspaper which I haven’t read all of yet, but hearing about happy stories and inspiring people is always a good thing. It’s important that we focus on some of the good things happening in the world even when times are hard, because if you look hard enough there is always some good news to find somewhere.

I haven’t had the Tea Pop yet because we are having a heatwave in the UK right now and I cannot stand drinking a hot drink when I’m already feeling very warm. However I did have an idea for this which was… make up the tea – I had Caramel flavour – and then pour it into an ice cube tray and freeze it! Pop these Caramel flavoured ice cubes into Pepsi Max or Water and make it a new flavour! Seeing as the heatwave is set to continue for yet another week I will make room in my freezer and do this! I will post about it on my Instagram and let you know how I get on!

Finally there are the Print, Wrapping Paper and the Cards – Treatbox Original Products – all made with the theme of sunshine! July is meant to be the happy and sunny month of the year (if we’re lucky) and so far we seem to be having just that! May the sunshine continue! I look forward to passing the cards on to people when it is appropriate to use them, and using the paper to wrap a present for someone.

Here are some more photographs now of the products I got within this box.

Thank you for joining me as I have unboxed and reviewed this July subscription box today. Treatbox UK is currently the only monthly box I am subscribed to and the reason for that is due to consistently great content and products that I hold in high regard. Providing items that are Vegan, Carbon Neutral, Sustainable and Healthy are very important to me. I get a treat but I’m also not harming the planet in the process.

I wish you a lovely month of July 2022!
Please stop by again soon for another Reveal and Review!

World Bee Day 2022 on May 20th

Happy World Bee Day!

Here is a Photo montage of Bee’s that I have taken this past year…
as a Nature Photographer I am constantly making images.

AWESOME FACTS ABOUT BEES

Bees are insects that have 6 legs and 5 eyes.

Bees have been around for approximately 30 million years.

Here in the United Kingdom we house around 270 species of Bees.

Worldwide there are more than 20,000 species of Bees.

Honey made from Bees was found inside the tombs of Egyptian Pharaoh’s and it would still be edible today.

Honey Bees communicate with one another through dancing moves!

Bees can fly up to 20 MPH!

Male Bees are called Drones.

Female Bees are called Worker Bees.

The Queen Bee can lay up to 2000 eggs a day and a hive will only have one Queen.

A Honey Bee will only make 1 Tablespoon of honey in their lifetime.

Some species of Bee are solitary and live alone except for reproduction moments, these often live underground too!

On average a Bee will fly 32,000 miles in their lifetime and visit more than 1 million flowers!

Honey Bees live in Bee Hives where they work together to make Honey.

If a Bee loses its stinger it will die – so make sure not to hit them and let them just fly around you and fly off again – once they realise you’re not a flower you won’t interest them anyway!

SABRINA’S HOW TO MAKE A 3D BEE!

I thought what better way to immortalise the Bee than to make your very own 3D craft version of one! I came up with this last year but sadly I missed the deadline for World Bee Day 2021, so I have saved it all for today! World Bee Day 2022! They are fairly easy to make and I will now tell you exactly what you need before we begin the how to method!

One Sheet of A4 Thin Yellow Card or Thick Paper
One Scissors
One Piece of Cereal Box Card
Pens – black and brown
A Permanent Pen – Black with a Fine End (for the Wings)
Double Sided Sticky Tape
A Piece of Thin Plastic (mine was off some toy packaging) (for the Wings)
Two Circular Objects to Draw Around – 1 for the Small Bee Head and 1 for the Body Circles

Step 1. Cut All of Your Circles Out – You need 1 head, 1 main body out of box card and four out of the yellow card. The yellow and the body have to be the same size, but the head needs to be 1/4 of the size. Put some double sided sticky tape on the cereal box card circle because this will be your base to work the rest up on. Put the other yellow circles down on a flat surface ready for their details.

Step 2. Draw some sections on the 4 yellow circles that will become the Bee body, you will need to have 3 sections that are lined horizontally and similar in size to each of the other matching circles (See image below). Colour these in Brown. The best thing to do is to have them on top of one another, mark the section the same and attempt to line them up with the opposite side. With the small Circle that is yellow (the Bee head), you need to draw two large Oval Eyes in Black, and then do some vertical lined streaks in brown so it looks like fur. Leave the top section of it Yellow, we will be sticking it to the body shortly.

Step 3. Stick the Head to the Body using double sided tape with only 1/4 of it attached to the Card and the rest sticking out. Now place the Bee in front of you, with the head facing you (facing South). You want to now take one of the striped yellow body sections, choose the one that is least lined up. Put some double sided tape on the back of it and stick it down on to the main card body, covering the edge of the head, with the stripes going horizontally across the Bee body. Place this beneath something heavy for a few minutes so as to stick it all into place while we do steps 4 and 5.

Step 4. Take your Plastic now and Scissors and permanent pen. You want to draw out two identical wings, Bee wings tend to have some ridged ends but you can just do ovals with a pointed end if you’re not confident (See Images below). Look at my Bee montage at the start of this blog post for wing inspiration! Once you are happy with the drawing cut them out, and make sure they’re the same size by overlapping them and trimming any overhanging edges.

Step 5. Draw some lines down the wings with the permanent thin pen, try to match the Bee wings (again take inspiration from my pictures at the start but be creative too this is your own Bee!) and match each other, make the same marks on both wings by having them side by side as you create the lines. Place them off to one side to fully dry. (If you use normal pen on plastic it will likely rub off).

Step 6. Now it comes to the tricky part, you need to take your Bee body parts and fold them in half, all three of them with the coloured lines on the inside of the half fold. Make sure that the centre is through the middle of the horizontal lined sections. Do this for all three and also make sure they are folded the same across the sections so when stacked together they are the same (or close as you can).

Step 7. Once you have folded them and they do match best they can, you need to take two of them to start with, and place some double sided tape strips on the one side of each one, so that is one taped only the left underside and one taped only on the right on the yellow underside of each of them. Take a look at my photograph below for clarification on the folds and the tape.

Step 8. Take your folded Bee body circles and place one on either side of the main Bee body with the head. Line them up with the circle that is already on it, the one you put the tape on the left underside goes on the left, and the right taped side on the right. When you push the body middles together they should be flush and straight in the centre and aligned with the head. Make sure the stripes line up and are horizontal to the head that is facing south, and the crease line for your folds should be straight up from that facing north. If this is accurate you can now remove the double sided tape, stick one side down at a time, to the main body. Then do the opposite side (see Step 7 and 8 images) and this leaves you with the other half of each circle standing up on end. The final circle you still have will go in between them causing the body parts to stand up 3D.

Step 9. Attaching the final circle on to the body is just about lining it up. First you need to put some double sided tape on to the pieces that are already attached to the Bee body that you stuck down in Step 8. (See image Steps 9 and 10 to clarify this next step). With the double sided tape now in place but not removed the tabs yet, you first line up the circles, look at it and think do the edges match and is it horizontal across the body? If the answer is yes then remove the tape tabs and stick that final circle on to the top of the Bee in between the other pieces.

Step 10. Press and hold the Bee body firmly now, gently run your fingers down each of the sides to press the circles fully together and ensuring the tape grips flush. Once they look like they are fully stuck with no gaps anywhere you can now make sure your wings are dry from earlier.

Step 11. Take your plastic wings from before, line them up with where you want them to go on the Bee body (they are usually attached to the middle section of a bee’s body). Then take two thin strips of double sided tape and match those up on either side, stick down the tape. (See Step 10 and 12 image for wing tape placement).

Step 12. Attach the wings now and make sure you press them down on to the tape for at least a minute to ensure the plastic gets a really good grip. Hold the Bee upside down and make sure they don’t come loose, if they do then press again.

Step 13. Tidy up any lines on the Bee and trim any edges with scissors that aren’t in line to neaten her up. Then you have your Queen Bee! You could hang her up somewhere or make her a little hive…

HAPPY WORLD BEE DAY!
You now have a friendly Bee to live in your home and remind you of their importance, coolness and cuteness.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP THE BEES?

Make a wildflower pot, planter or corner of your garden and attract bees and help them with their pollinating. You can get wild flower seeds free with some things such as “30 Days Wild) and Brands often give them away with food products too.

Don’t pull out all of your weeds, leave a few because bees need them especially because weeds are usually the first flowers of the new season.

If a Bee comes into your house leave it alone, open some windows and let it find its way out, do not attack it or attempt to catch it because it may sting in fear and then it will sadly die. Most Bee’s will head straight back out a door or window when they smell the fresh air.

Visit a local Apiary and But Local Honey products when possible.
