My Thoughts On The October 2020 Box
I really like theme of delicious treats inside this month’s box. A really nice original print for us all to display this month too. Along with lots of yummy treats to enjoy on the colder nights. Lots of autumn flavours included in them as well.
I adore the socks, love, love, love them! Hedgehogs are adorable! The weekly planner is also a very handy item. I am coming to the end of one of the notepads from a Treatbox from last year, so this one will soon take its place on my desk. Perfect timing!
The wax melts will be gifted to a friend who has the means to use them. I was a tiny bit disappointed about the best before date on the Mallow Bar, but as it is “at its best before” the 5th October, it should still be okay to consume within the next few days. Luckily all the other items have great sell by dates so no need to rush into enjoying them all.
This box was a lovely pick me up box that was much needed for me this month.

I think every parent will agree with me when I say “mess is a fact of having children” but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a tidy home when the children are asleep, or for when relatives come around! And can I just say, Square Furniture really excites me, its versatility knows no bounds!
But first, Tidy Hacks! When my son was only twelve months old I began a routine with him which involved us tidying up once we have finished with certain things. It started with me showing him then handing him the item and encouraging him to copy me. So… Books went back in his Book Tub and toys went back in the Toy Box. He soon realised that it was important to tidy up. My son took to it really well, he even puts balls back in his ball pit now, and has done since he was eighteen months of age. Instilling this notion early enough has paved a way for a toddler who understands how important it is to put something back when you have finished with it. My first TIP is to allocate boxes for different items, such as, the Grey box is for books, the Red box is for Cars, the Blue box is for trains and the Green box is for animals.
There is no right or wrong way to have your home, however one thing is for sure, cleaning it is far easier when everything has its own place. Boxes are filled and put back on to shelves. I love furniture and I love how it brings a room together too. I have a large wooden chest in my lounge along with several small lidded boxes to store my sons toys in. I always like to have that option to tidy things away completely, in case I have family over for example, or I may need the space to do messy play.
In my son’s bedroom I have several pieces of furniture that are square and contain various storage tubs and boxes. They look neat and tidy and are easy enough to maintain. The boxes are made of fabric and are often purchasable in many styles and colours to maintain the theme for your chosen bedroom. Great for anywhere in the house, such as hallway or living room too. Do you have any Square Furniture? I think they’re just great!
I have always been a fan of the clean lines that square furniture gives you. And with so many places now creating the relevant boxes to go into these holes, you have a wide range of choice to make your home how you want it.
B & M Boxes
Excellent Value for Money Square Storage Boxes
Argos – Great Quality and in a Variety of Colours and Patterns. Boxes are in packs of 4 with 2 Sizes Available. And prices start from £14.00 for 4 boxes. Argos also do lidded Square Storage Cubes in fabric and a leather look, which can double as seating for children in a bedroom too.
B & M – Fabric Boxes and Velvet Boxes, Good Quality but Less Choice Available (I only found Bright Pink, Blush Pink, Dark Grey and Silver). The Velvet ones were £7 for a pack of two and are very soft and of good quality. The fabric boxes are not as nice but definitely do the job well enough though and are ideal for toys, they were £5 for a pack of two.
Aldi – Special Buys Baby Event – Stars Boxes – Multiple Colours Available and were £3.99 each box. They were only available for a limited time.
Ikea – Several styles of boxes and tubs available from Ikea and many colours and patterns as well. They range from £3.00 upwards for a single box and the range is called Drona.
The furniture I purchased for my sons room is from Argos. But Ikea do a similar range as well named Kallax. Due to the Pandemic it has been far easier for me to get a delivery or click and collect option from my local Argos stores, mainly because its almost a two hour drive for me to get to an Ikea store, so I would rely on an online order and delivery.
My final TIP for keeping a house tidy is this, get one box out at a time, and teach your child/ren that once they are finished with that box, it gets packed up and placed back on to the unit or into the bedroom it came from. Then they can get another box of toys out to play with. In-still this idea at a young age and they should keep respecting their play space long enough to keep wanting to tidy up after themselves. These types of storage are so easy too, there isn’t anything complicated about it. You just need a system of what goes into what box, but you could always get labels for them too!

Owl and Brolly Stickers are Unique, Colourful and Imaginative
Hello Severn Wishes followers. Today I have the pleasure of bringing a special review to you all. Owl and Brolly is a company who specialise in Wall Stickers, mainly for children’s bedrooms and play rooms. I have known Sue at Owl and Brolly for several years now, we bonded through an Endometriosis group and found we had mutual things in common. When I found out she was an incredible artist and saw her beautiful work, I wanted to shout about her talent.
Sue knew that I had just moved house into a rental property, and I couldn’t take the chance of ruining the paintwork in my son’s bedroom. So the plan was to do some tester stickers, an hour, twenty four hours and finally seven days. And luckily for me there was nothing wrong with the paint and I tried the stickers on several walls just to make certain. I can guarantee that it is a good idea to do the Tester Sticker when you may not know the condition of the walls in your home.
Delightful Christmas Bear
This lovely Bear is for my son’s bedroom, he hasn’t given him a name just yet, ha, ha! But the quality of this sticker just amazed me. Not just the printing of the sticker itself but the design. Owl and Brolly stickers are all drawn and designed by hand. What a talented woman behind such a wonderful creative business.
What I love about the Owl and Brolly range is the creativity and the infinite imagination that stems from items like these stickers. Any child would be lucky to have some of them on their walls.

I will now give you some background about the company and how it all came about. As a small British Business they are always looking for support from fellow UK citizens who appreciate all the talented people in this country, and especially now during the pandemic, it’s a great idea to think about purchasing locally for Christmas this year. Perhaps my blog post will inspire you to buy from Owl and Brolly.
Sue studied a HND in Natural History Illustration specialising in watercolour, she enjoyed a creative career until Endometriosis forced her to change her way of working. In order to move with the times she made the decision to become more of a digital based artist than making art with traditional paintings. Her drawings are incredibly detailed and she has a unique style.
It was after helping a start-up company with their designing that Sue went on to illustrate her own range of wall stickers for nursery walls and kids rooms. She began combining her own special watercolour techniques and using some digital media to create the sticker designs. It was a decision that brought out her artistic skills and she is doing what she loves every single day. It was at this time that she started her company, and Owl and Brolly was born.
The stickers are all printed on a high quality removable and reusable fabric wall sticker, rather than a single use PVC vinyl. This allows them to be used more than once and are easily removed (gently) and then repositioned. Sue has a passion for wanting to create illustrations that will help to inspire children’s imaginations. Her beautiful watercolour designs are not only highly detailed but they look unique. They are printed to such a high quality that they look good on any wall space and have already made so many children (and their parents) happy with the designs.
The Stickers are thin but excellent quality, printed onto removable and reusable fabric.

What Do I Love Most In This Box?
I cannot express how happy I was to see the Calendar Print! I love it too being a Cat related image! It has gone straight on to my Fridge. I do hope this will be a regular occurrence again! If so, then fab! I adore the scarf it is both pretty and soft, and the pattern is versatile enough to go with anything in my wardrobe.
The Lip Scrubber is really useful and a very handy product considering we are now entering into Autumn and Winter. A good idea to have in your bathroom in case of dry lips!
I haven’t eaten the Treat Bar yet, but it sounds delicious! And I have gifted the Coffee Bag to my Mother who adores her Coffee, I am not fond of it in all honesty. I’m sure she will enjoy it!
The Affirmation Cards are wonderful! Just when you need a pick me up they are right there. Wonderful quaint designs and they say all the right things. I have popped two of them on my fridge along with my calendar, because as someone who is currently working through a low self esteem, it’s really nice to have reminders such as, “I am enough” and “I am strong” etc.
I love the pink theme this month, to be honest the whole box is well thought out. I am also ecstatic because there isn’t a face or eye mask in sight! Hurrah! *Dances* I really hope this is a good move and a turning point, because if it is then I am happy to continue my subscription. I want (as I’m sure many of you do) a Treat to eat or drink, something to cherish or wear, something to do and enjoy and something to inspire. The calendar print I would love to see return, as I would also love to see A5 prints perhaps. I have a few of the A4 ones from the last 3 years of boxes framed around my home and I still adore them.
I am very much looking forward to my October box now, I hope it is full of inspiring things and perhaps an Autumnal theme…

Today on my blog I am talking about those gorgeous mini rose bush plants you can buy them in your local supermarket. You can usually get one for around £3-£5 for a plant, sometimes they come in a pretty little pot as well. When choosing one, go for one with a nice thick and healthy main stem and with buds that are still yet to open and flower.
The Supermarket Rose is a beautiful gift for someone who just to brighten up your windowsill. I have had two yellow roses and a pink rose in the last two years. You can often find them in Red, Peach and even a pale White shade of Rose petals. Supermarkets usually stock a wide range of colours, I like Yellow as I feel it brightens up a room.
So many people toss their little Rose bushes into the bin when they finish flowering. One reason for this is because they see the label which often reads “Guaranteed to Flower for 14 days” and they presume that after this flowering rose is finished blooming then the plant is now obsolete, and that is so wrong! Did you know that with a little love and care you can make your little Rose last for months or even years? And they will flower again!
Well in this blog post I am going to tell you just how and why you should keep them. Here are my main 3 Reasons…
Reason 1. They can survive inside or outside! I will go into how you would care for each in a moment.
Reason 2. You sometimes get extra growth of the original plant after a couple of months, and some plants can be re-potted into more than one Rose bush. Then you could keep one for yourself and gift away the other if you like!
Reason 3. Looking after plants during difficult and uncertain times can help your mental health by giving you something to care for and focus on. It will also produce flowers several times a year to brighten up your home.
Just after I had separated the Rose Stems off and then set them back onto my windowsill.
They soon grew and grew and grew… and flowered again!
Keeping Your Rose Inside or Outside
Inside A nice regular sized pot and a windowsill with half sun and half shade, your Rose bush should thrive here. Water it every day, keeping the soil damp and remove dead leaves and dead flowers to prolong its growth. Leave it inside the pot it comes in until all the flowers have finished, and then you can re-pot it into something prettier if you’d like, pop a few stones at the base to allow for drainage and if you’re increasing the pot size to allow for growth use some moisture controlling compost.
Check the plant if and when you re-pot it. You may find it has two separate stems and roots systems, if that is the case you can do as I did above (image) and pot in two pots and then you’ll end up with two plants.
Outside A pot of any size because the bush will grow into it. But in order to be liveable outside and to survive the Winter you must do two things. One, is to line the pot with a sheet of bubble wrap plastic, this is to keep the roots safe from any frost. And two, you also need to put a few stones in the base and place the plant into some moisture controlling compost, which will retain water so as to keep the plant nourished. You must water it regularly in warm weather and do not let the pot dry out.
So far my Pink Outdoor Supermarket Rose is coming up to its third year in a pot outside. I got lots of flowers on it in June, I also gave it some flower food once the flowers began to show their buds. As you can see I had some rich new green leaves grow this summer. I may need to re-pot it into a larger pot next summer if it grows again.
The image below is of my Yellow Rose Plants, they were separated in the Spring and now it is September, they have more than doubled in size. They are now flowering for the fourth time this year. They are getting quite big now for my kitchen, I am contemplating potting them outside on a sunny day in the Autumn, I have some left over bubble wrap from my recent move ready to wrap around them to keep the roots warm and protected from any frost we might have. They have loved their new position in my new home, since July they have been on that kitchen window, and it gets lots of light.
I have treated myself to a new little rose now too, to start this process off all over again. I got this cute little plant from Aldi for just £1.79! Bargain! Gorgeous Pink colour!
My plan is to grow this Rose to the same size as my yellow ones while indoors, then plant outdoors next late Spring time. Hopefully it can reach a similar size.

The Haden Highclere Toaster is a great example of British Quality. It has been manufactured to a high standard with clean lines and a beautiful steel look to compliment the metal elements of a toaster. The addition of the Cream colour casing makes it a perfect appliance to slot into any kitchen. It is also available in a pale cyan blue colour but from Haden direct at the moment.
This fantastic 4 slice toaster has wider slots than most other brands meaning it’s perfect if you love a tasty fat crumpet or a tasty thick wedge of toast. Your products won’t get stuck when popping up out of this well designed appliance. I love how it has smooth rounded edges; everything I have had previously is very square. I think it’s a rather feminine looking Toaster, and I really like that about it. The whole piece is beautiful with the steel having reflection of the area surrounding the toaster. I have the cream version and it compliments it very well.
I am most impressed by the look of the piece and the width of the toasting slots. Now I can enjoy tasty crumpets without waiting for them to get stuck! And it goes well in my kitchen because of its very stylish design. Cream goes with everything doesn’t it? The toaster doesn’t take up loads of room on your counter top either, which is great news, so you get the wide toasting slots and a compact design. What more could you want? I know I am extremely satisfied with this product and I will always enjoy using it.

Argos Tester Submission
The Haden Toaster is beautiful, I love that its rounded design has some great features. With wider toasting slots it means my crumpets never get stuck now! I like the easy functionality of it with Reheat & Defrost buttons. Overall it’s a Toaster that will go beautifully in any kitchen with its stylish metallic & cream finish. I found that toast was crisp & golden in no time. I’m really happy with the excellent quality of this Haden appliance and I hope it lasts me a very long time.

My Delicious Red Wine Casserole Recipe is a winner for the whole family to enjoy. And it’s got plenty of vegetables in it too, with a rich red wine gravy sauce.
You can have a tasty dinner in 3 hours, with a 30 minutes preparation time and a 2.5 hour cooking time. Easy to do and leave in the oven while you do something else! It is a very handy recipe to have when you have to help your children with homework this Autumn.
I will do my ingredients list as if you were serving 4 people. I do this meal for my son and I, and it then reheats well the next day when stored in a fridge once it has cooled from the original cooking. I do it in a Pyrex Casserole Dish with a lid, and it can then be cooked and stored easily.
Ingredients
Vegetables 4 Carrots (1 Medium Carrot per person) – finely diced is best. 2 or 3 Large White Onions (at least half a large onion per person) – finely diced or small pieces. 1 Tin of Chopped Tomatoes 400g (Make sure to add some warm water to the tin, add this in to the dish in order to create your liquid for your stock). (Optional) Mushrooms – Small Washed Button Mushrooms are best.
Accompaniment / Side
Long Grain Rice prepared per person. 1 Tin of New Potatoes 600g (serves 4 people) This can be added to the Casserole and they will cook during the time frame. 500g Mashed Potato prepared during the final half an hour of cooking.
Meat / Vegetarian Alternative
300g – 500g of Casserole Meat of your Choice – I use Beef or Chicken or Quorn – all of which go really well with the Red Wine Sauce. Plain Flour for Coating the Meat (Contains: Wheat)
Sauce Tesco Red Wine Stock Pot – 1 for a 4 person Casserole. (Contains: Sulphites)
Tesco Stock Pot Red Wine Packaging 4 x 28g
Method
1. Start by preparing your meat, it will require 2 hours or up to 2.5 hours of cooking time. Mix your cut up raw meat with some plain flour in a bowl. You want bite size pieces and all coated in flour. Then you want to fry these off in a tiny bit of oil until sealed but not overcooked, you don’t want the meat to go dry.
2. Next you need to prepare your vegetables. Dice and Fry your Onions after you finish with the Meat/Veg Option. Dice with a knife or throw them all into a food processor to chop them up, it won’t matter to the end result, but you don’t want too big pieces. Don’t cook the Carrots, there is so need, you just want to chop and add them to the casserole dish, they will cook in the stock.
3. Speaking of Stock, that is your next thing, pop your chopped tomatoes in the dish, add water to the tin, and then add that to your dish. You need to add the stock pot, mix thoroughly.
4. Add the rest of whatever you have, vegetables, fried onions, sealed meat, mix together in the stock and then pop the lid on. Preheat your oven and cook at 160 degrees (fan oven) for 2 hours. Check and stir the casserole at that point and then pop it back in the oven for another 30 minutes. (You can do your mashed potato or rice during this half an hour if you didn’t add potatoes to the dish).
5. Be careful when you remove it from the oven as it will be very hot. Serve in bowls with your chosen accompaniment, and enjoy!

My Thoughts on this Box
I had never tired the Cold Infused Twinings before so it was a nice treat to try something new. I was a little disappointed with another face mask, though I understand some people would use one a week at least, so I am going to try and do the same from now on and do more self care. I have a small box full of all the ones I have had from subscriptions boxes such as this one, they are mostly from Treatbox to be fair. Another cosmetics bag too? That is not good as we have received several small bags this last 12 boxes.
Don’t get me wrong, I really liked some of the items inside this month’s box, they were different (yay) and the print was also beautiful and has a nice summer inspired design. A few items were ideal in regarding how I was feeling emotionally this month. Even the sticker at the start reading “Keep Going” is a reminder of not to give up. I have a difficult time ahead of me and receiving this box every month would usually be a pick me up that was well needed. Lately I haven’t felt the same about the boxes, although this August box has given me a bit more positivity towards them, I honestly think that September might be my final box. I have to make that decision in the coming weeks based on the upcoming contents.

My thoughts on the Marshall Emberton – Portable Loudspeaker
I am using the Marshall Emberton with my iPhone to make my music portable around my home. So far I am very impressed with the clarity of sound, the ease of use and the quickness of setting up its Bluetooth capabilities.
Playing a wide range of different music on the portable loudspeaker including pop music, rock music, soundtracks and themes as well as vocal pieces, I have to say I’m very happy with how the Marshall Emberton sounds. The Emberton boasts two amazing speakers, one either side of it, so no matter where you are in a room you can clearly hear the music.
The Loudspeaker weighs 0.7kg and sits sturdily on a flat surface whenever you wish to play your music. With over 20 hours of battery life this portable speaker also has a multi-functional control button in the centre which feels very nice to push. The overall look and feel of this Marshall Emberton speaker is one of quality and sophistication.
The design is in black with its red and white details along with the copper button in the centre. The word Marshall is written across the front with a metallic mesh speaker look. The leather exterior is water resistant and when that rich sound comes out from this loudspeaker you can hear every note and beat clearly.
I’m very impressed with this portable device, I feel confident in its design and the quality. Because it’s so easy to charge up using a USB attachment, you can then take it anywhere you like.
After using the Marshall Emberton now for over two weeks, I couldn’t help but think that Marshall could have developed this portable speaker to appeal to gamers, like myself. If they had also allowed for an auxiliary cable attachment, then the speaker could have been attached to a television. This would have given an incredible dimension to gaming using the rich sound that the speaker can produce. Maybe this is something they could consider for a future model.
Overall I have been delighted with this speaker. It’s good that it’s waterproof casing is so durable, because I have a toddler, and also that it is wipe clean because it can become quite static and attracts dust and hairs. But that is easily wiped off so it’s not a problem for me. I very much look forward to taking it outside of my home when we go for walks and things like that, the battery has been amazing, I have only had to charge it once so far and it’s still going! The little red lights (as seen below) go down as the battery does so it is easy to see what charge you’ve got remaining.

All this lovely warm weather had me realise that I barely owned anything short sleeved, that I was still able to breastfeed comfortably in. So I checked out the Dorothy Perkins 70% off sale that was on during June and into July.
I found myself two beautiful shirts, along with a linen shirt dress with pretty wooden buttons. I also grabbed a pair of my favourite Black Eden Jeggings too, mainly because I wore out two old ones this Summer that I purchased about six years ago.

Product: White Tie Front Shirt Price: £12.80 (Correct as of 18th July) Size: I am wearing a Size 8. I found the item to be True to Size, I liked how it looked on, perfect around both my neck and my shoulders. Details: This beautiful shirt is sleeveless and features white and cream floral patterns across the length of the materiel. It is a button shirt and a tie front at the bottom. The collar is a lovely feature and makes the shirt look and feel smart and sophisticated. The floral design made me feel feminine and the material is soft. You could easily wear this to work all day and then dress it up with a pair of heels and some black trousers for the evening. Materials: 50% Polyester and 50% Viscose. Product: Khaki Shirt Dress with Linen Price: £20.80 (Correct as of 18th July) Size: I am wearing a Size 8. I found the item to be True to Size and it fitted my figure really well. It was great for my chest which isn’t large, but if you are blessed with an ample bosom I wouldn’t recommend this style for you. Details: This beautiful shirt has short sleeves, beautiful wooden buttons and a long material tie waist belt, that matches the linen used for the dress itself. Overall it has some lovely features such as buttons on the shoulders, half length sleeves and it even has two good sized pockets! Overall a beautiful item that washed and wore very well. Ideal for Spring or Autumn, or a cool Summers Day in the shade. Sophisticated enough to dress up for an evening with heels and some shiny accessories. Product: Grey Check Short Sleeve Shirt Price: £19.80 (Correct as of 19th July) Size: I found this shirt incredibly flattering. I am wearing a Size 8. I found the item to be True to Size. It was nice to have something figure hugging but because I was able to undo the buttons to suit me, it felt more like a summer cropped shirt than it did just a short sleeve shirt. Details: This beautiful shirt is right on trend with its Check pattern design and the Tie Front. Perfect for a warm Summers Day and great paired with jeans, shorts or a pretty skirt. Keep the other clothing neutral so as to show off the shirt as your main focus, or you could choose to pair it with a contrasting pattern such as a polka dot skirt. Product: Black Eden Jegging With Organic Cotton Price: £14.40 (Correct as of 20th July) Size: I am currently wearing a Size 6 Short but I can fit comfortably into a 6 or an 8 Eden because they have a slightly stretchy material. They usually fit me very well around my hips, waist and thighs. I would recommend you try on two sizes and see which you prefer when they are on you. Details: Some Jeggings are a firm material but these Dorothy Perkins Eden Jeggings are always soft. I love them in black because they go with everything and anything. A few years ago they removed the belt loops, but this year they added them back on to the designs and also improved the shape and the back pockets. DP also chose to use Organic Cotton for this particular Eden and they are soft, comfortable and they wash well too. I love them, they are back to being a 5 star item for me. Good Old Brand New Edens!
