Severn Wishes Two Year Anniversary Giveaway

╰☆╮ The Severn Wishes Two Year Blogging Anniversary Giveaway ╰☆╮

It’s the end of my second year of blogging and I thought what better way to celebrate than to have a Giveaway! I have been happy with my past year on Severn Wishes, having collaborated with several companies and enjoyed every moment of that. I have also decided to reach out to some more brands this year due to my lifestyle changes happening in the summer!

I must admit that the majority of the items I am giving away are based for female entrants, however that doesn’t stop you entering and giving it to your girlfriend or wife or significant other! If you have enjoyed my blog and supported me over the last how ever many weeks or months I am certainly grateful!

I’ve had another successful year of blogging and reviewing, and I wanted to share some of the success with you, my loyal followers. I’ve also won several giveaways myself recently and there are items within them I simply won’t use. I wanted to pass those on and I’ve also purchased some bits during the last part of 2017 that I use myself and love. Because I review every aspect of my life I wanted the variety of my blog to be reflected in my Giveaway!

Makeup Revolution December 2016 Advent Calendar, Unboxing and Full Review

The Makeup Revolution 25 Window December 2016 Advent Calendar

I think I underestimated how long it would take to photograph, test and evaluate all of the products contained in the December 2016 Makeup Revolution advent calendar. Saying that, not only have I thoroughly enjoyed trying things out and learning more about them, but it’s been fun to open something other than tiny chocolates on the run up to Christmas!

So it’s taken me a while to write this post and complete all the images I needed for it (and by a while I mean it has taken weeks of photograph, both taking and processing and swatches and product testing). Weather (for lighting) and health (I have had two very nasty bouts of colds in the last 6 weeks) have also been against me.
So I do apologize now for the video that I made, I am still uploading it because I put so much effort into it!!! But the quality isn’t that good, so you have been warned! I wish I had a soft box! I will place the link at the end of the post for those who want to see it. But the main thing is that I truly hope you like my photography, I have spent many hours on these images…

Where to start! I will begin by telling you all how impressed I was with the way in which the products were packaged, and how fabulous the design of this calendar was, even though there was nothing hugely special about it. The black and rose gold colours made it stand out and it wasn’t over the top like some brands are. You would have thought it would have been heavier too, but the whole set was contained in a large stand-able box, with a fold in the centre so it could be stood up or lain flat as well.

The nature of the rest of my post will be to go through the items within this years calendar (2016) and to give each item the attention it deserves. It will be numbered by how it came out of the box, and if I have used it the item will be reviewed individually. Any product information will be contained in the photographs, if you would like further information on anything please leave me a comment declaring the question and which number of item.
After all of the 25 items have been listed, I will give an overall impression and opinion of the best products. And finally I am going to end with some swatches and colour correct photographs for you.

There was only one thing missing from this wonderful variety of makeup items, and that was a makeup bag to put it all into!

The Items I Am Most Impressed With

The three items that I have enjoyed the most from this advent calendar are the Redemption Eyeshadow Palette, the Mono Eyeshadow Pots and the Mini Brushes.

You cannot go wrong with Eyeshadow Palettes and I love that the pots are small enough to go in my makeup bag when I travel. Being brunette I wear a lot of dark coloured clothes, so the Mono Eyeshadows I received within this calendar are perfect for me to use with my regular looks.
The brushes are ideal for travel and handbags due to their length and the quality is very good. Not only are they soft but they are also firmly set in shape. A regular use for when out and about, two of them can also double in uses for both face and eyes, very handy if you’re short of space in your bag.
Overall these items have been the best in my personal opinion, and I’m still working up the courage to give the balms and the highlighters a go.
Two of the lipsticks aren’t the appropriate colours for my skin tone, but could be ideal for fancy dress parties, so they won’t go to waste.

When you look at how many items you receive for the price paid, I think the calendar is an excellent idea and a great way of trying things new. What you can use for the money as well, is pretty excellent, there isn’t anything that I definitely won’t use ever. And if I find I won’t I can always gift them away to friends and relatives who would use the products.

So let me talk about the colours in this calendar, I am now going to show some swatch photographs of the lipsticks and the eyeshadows. I know that some colours won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but I think it’s important to outline what you are getting, and packaging sometimes gets in the way of that. I will show Lipsticks, Two of the Mono Eyeshadows, and the Redemption Palette.

My Overall Review is 4/5

Sabrina’s Christmas Wishlist

Sabrina’s Christmas Wishlist

I’m sure many of you have wishlists, and with Christmas coming up I thought that I could indulge in the products that I would love to get this year. These links and images form the accumulation of items that I would like to be reviewing at Christmas and in the new year.

My first items on my wishlist are to have some more of these incredible makeup brushes from Spectrum Collections! I have the pink and would love some of the others, they are fabulous for me to add to reviewing photographs too, so so photograph-able! And they also put my makeup on so well too and are extremely soft! In fact I could do with a brush cleaner and I hear the Spectrum one is also excellent!

The second items on my list are from Dorothy Perkins. There are these boots and this dress gorgeous that I absolutely adore! There are so many nice items, and on trend looks available on the DP website at the moment, definitely worth a look in my opinion.

Another item I really like the look of right now is the Makeup Revolution Advent Calendar, how great does this look? I still hope to get some chocolate, but I like these products, and would like to own more, perhaps I will be lucky enough to open this sort of calendar this year… (Purchased By Me – Review Coming Soon)

Something else I discovered after someone shared it on Twitter was this amazing lamp from Very.

I would love this in my home http://www.very.co.uk/eiffel-tower-table-lamp/1600079375.prd

(I purchased this lamp at the end of November, and I love it! Full review coming soon…)

New Look also have some great looking Boots out this season, here are two of the ones that I have got my eye on… both ankle boots…

On my wishlist for reviewing is also this fabulous shelf from over on the Treatbox UK website in the ‘shop’ section, it is so unique looking I just love it! I had to dream what I might place upon it, a pot filled with Spectrum Brushes, a frame and so much more! Do you like it? I love it!

The final items I would love to own and review this Christmas are these pieces from Cherry Diva! I adore anything turquoise or anything with feathers or arrows, that sort of thing…

Another fab idea for people for gifts this Christmas would be anything with a subscription box, I have already reviewed Secret Scent Box, and I currently review Treatbox UK on a monthly basis. I would love to try other boxes in the future, such as Birchbox or Glossybox or perhaps anything else relating to beauty/fashion/perfume/food, some of my favourite things!

Thank you for reading this post today, I wonder if I have inspired any of you for your Christmas lists and gifts for friends or loved ones. Check out the links for the items and brands featured in my post today. I am hoping my wishlist will turn into a reality for some of these items and then I can happily review them for you all to see. Until then keep coming back to the blog for more reveals, reviews and honest opinions on products.

The No Makeup, Makeup Look

The biggest thing I have seen in the celeb magazines lately, has been the no makeup, makeup look. Which involves wearing makeup that matches your skin tone and to not over do the other aspects of putting your face on, such as too much blush and no over the top eye looks.

I personally really respect this trend, and would always prefer to look natural instead of coming across as having ‘put it on with a trowel’. I think women look far more beautiful with subtle aspects of makeup that enhance their already unique features.

NoMakeupLook1For me, I nearly always wear mascara on my eyes and powder on the skin on my face to reduce redness and any uneven skin tone. I felt that I already achieved this look on a regular basis, so I wanted to show how I did this and what products I have used. As you can see in the image above my makeup is subtle, used to mainly hide dark circles and blemishes and to remove any shine from my skin.

So having decided to give this a go for the blog, I wanted to show the difference on my face between what my skin looks like bare and with subtle makeup. I will be achieving this by doing a half and half photograph. One half of my face will be made up and the other will just be as it is – completely natural.

The image below shows me achieving this, and I don’t see a great difference unless you get very close up to my skin. The powder I chose has covered a few blemishes and the light application of mascara has enhanced my lashes just enough so my eyes look awake. Half my lip has lipstick on it, a shade similar to my own lip tone. If you look closely the bags under my eye have faded compared to the natural look of my skin and the powder also hides any pimples on show.

NoMakeupLook2So what products have I used for the makeup half of this look. Well the mascara I used was a gentle application of Rimmel London’s Super Curler 24 hr Mascara (a little goes a long way).

The eyeshadow is from Makeup Revolution Elements 3 and is a light brown to match with the colour of my hair and eyes.

The lipstick I like to use is a natural look one which compliments my lip colour. It’s from L’oreal Paris Made for me Naturals collection and is for ‘Dark Brunettes’ Number 240. (I’m not even sure if they make this anymore but I bought several a couple of years ago and this is my last one).

And finally the powders I use are Rimmel London Stay Matte pressed powders in shades Silky Beige and Transparent, by using both I create an almost contour effect, using the lighter shade around my cheek bones and brow bones and the beige one for all over coverage. I finish with a very light dusting of Rimmel Lasting Finish Blush in Pink Rose, just patted onto my cheek with a brush.

I am interested to know what people think of my natural makeup application and look. As you can tell I like Rimmel London products! Do you have any product recommendations for me? I will leave you with a picture of myself from the other week, exactly the same makeup application but in some natural light where it can be appreciated a bit more.

Thank you for reading, have a lovely day.

Makeup Revolution ‘Colour Chaos’ Palette Review

ColourChaos1SWI was lucky enough to receive this incredible palette from Makeup Revolution London in my mystery bag in March. If you saw my mystery bag reveal here on my blog then you’ll remember it. I wanted to swatch this one and really test out the vibrancy of the colours. At first glance you can see how pigmented the shades are, especially some of the shimmer colours with glitter for extra sparkle.

Colour Chaos SW

I really wanted to review this item because I don’t often wear bright colours on my eyes so it’s a new aspect of makeup for me to try. With 18 exclusive shades inside this palette there is so much choice.

When you initially open the palette you instantly notice how pigmented the eye shadows are. They are all titled from Makeup Revolution London and the plastic sheet is easily removable and then re positioned after each use. The pro two ended brush that is included is soft and seems durable. The brush tips are small ideal for getting into the edges of your eyes.

Here are some photographs of the palette itself and then some swatches on my arm too, before I give my overall review. I took these photographs in natural light to show the true pigment of the shades and give you the correct colours as expected in the palette.

My swatches run from left to right and top to bottom. Example; Gleam, Needed To, Wkd, Me Three, etc, The six matte shades are on my other arm so they can be viewed separately from the shimmer shades.

ColourChaos2SW ColourChaosSwatchedSWHere are the 12 shimmer shades of eye shadow. I particularly like the darker shades, because that is how I would usually do my makeup style. As you can see from my swatches there are differences between the shades even those of similar colour like the blues. Luckily I think there are palettes that suit everyone, and there are palettes that people may use only a few of the colours included. I wouldn’t reach for the majority of these shades on a daily basis, but they are great for themed makeup and fancy dress nights out, or just matching with a bold outfit. The great thing about a set like this one is that those shadows are there when you need them, and you can use your regular palettes for the regular days of the week. Unless you love bright and bold as an everyday look in which case this palette is certainly for you!

SwatchesMattesSW

The matte shades contain 4 bright and 2 light colours. You can barely see the beige colour (left on my photograph). This is great as a primer for your eyelids before adding other colours to blend, or even as a lower lash line highlighter, which is probably what I will be using this and the white colour for. As you look at the palette I have gone from right to left with these swatches.

Swatches Smudged

I decided to test the staying power of these shimmer eye shadows by rubbing my arm one way with a piece of tissue. I did this for a few seconds and was astounded to see that most of the colours remained intact. I in fact needed two cotton pads of Garnier Micellar water to get this stuff completely off! So it has great staying power I think!

Quality 4/5
Value 5/5
Variety 5/5

Swatches2SW

As you can see from my images of swatches the overall quality of the palette is great. The shimmer shades are a little dusty but once you have blown off the excess you will see a wonderful shade that is left. The pigment is wonderful but they are quite fragile. That is my only reason for giving it a 4/5 for the quality.
The actual variety that you get is great for such a small piece of kit and I think the range is one that would suit most people. I myself do prefer the dark shades such as ‘Me Three’ and ‘On A Mission’ but you also have the bright and bold to go specifically with outfits or themed makeup nights. Electric Blue Eye Shadow is currently on trend so I might have to give that a go next time I wear one of my nautical outfits!
I gave the value a 5/5 because although I received this palette free you can pick one of these up for around £6 (sometimes lower), and I think that’s a fabulous price for all the content you get in this palette.

I am very pleased that I was lucky enough to receive this palette, and although it won’t be the one I go to use every week it doesn’t mean to say that it wont be used and enjoyed. I hope you have enjoyed reading this review, and here is a link to the Makeup Revolution London website showing the palette for those who are interested in purchasing one.

Makeup Revolution Haul and Review

A very good friend of mine is a makeup artist and she recommended Makeup Revolution London to me last year. I started off my collection with a palette I knew I would use on a regular basis because of my complexion and eye colour. That was their Iconic 3 eyeshadow palette, and I have to say the colours are fabulous. Not only that but they last a long time on your skin, sometimes right through the day. And to make it even better, they aren’t expensive products either.

MakeUpRevPaletteIconic3SW2

I enjoyed using this makeup brand so much that this Spring I ordered some more things from them. Another 2 eyeshadow palettes and some new brushes. For the price you pay the quality is excellent. The brushes are soft yet durable and even if they only last me a year or two, for the price it’s well worth it. I deliberately chose the following palettes that compliment my skin tone and my eye colour.

Makeup Revolution Iconic Smokey – 12 smokey eyeshadow powders and this set includes a pro 1970 double ended brush
Makeup Revolution Iconic Elements – 12 basic shades – 11 matte and 1 shimmer

MakeUpRevolutionSWI know a lot of bloggers do swatches of the colours in the palettes, but these aren’t brand new items so there will be plenty of people out there who have already reviewed them. I just wanted to give my honest opinion of them to you.

I have hazel eyes and so I wanted to show you the 3 shades, 1 from each palette, which I deem most suitable for me. Number 1 is if I was going for a smokey eyed look. Number 3 is for a more glamorous look. Number 3 is for an everyday look.

The palettes I used for these swatches are Iconic Smokey, Iconic 3 and Iconic Elements. All of them have a great pigmentation and the texture is light but durable. They blend extremely easily which is great for all the smokey eye looks I wear.

Swatch 1 – Iconic Smokey – ‘Silvery’
Swatch 2 – Iconic 3 – ‘Deep Purple Shimmer’
Swatch 3 – Iconic Elements – ‘Chocolate Orange’
SwatchesNumbers

What I noticed the most about doing these swatches on my arm was how strong the pigments were and how incredibly resilient they were. When you remove the makeup on your face with wipes and micellar waters you don’t always notice how much it takes to get the product off. When I began to remove the swatches after photographing I couldn’t believe the strength in the colours. When I have worn other Makeup Revolution eyeshadows they always last all day, so you can wear these products with confidence. You know that you don’t have to worry about a top up part way through the day or night. This quality is essential for those of us who are on the go a lot, one less thing to think about.

MakeUpRevolutionBrushesSW Here are my recent brush replacement purchases. I chose mostly eye specific brushes because I generally wear makeup on my eyes if nowhere else. The final and largest brush in this image is the new foundation one I ordered. Mine was old and looking worse for wear so I decided to replace it.

EyeshadowItemsSW

My overall review of my Makeup Revolution haul is;
Value 5/5
Quality 4/5
Variety 5/5

Would I purchase from Makeup Revolution again? Yes. The delivery time was good and the quality and the care that was taken to post them in was fantastic too. I look forward to seeing what other great products they release this year.

Thanks for reading.

It took me a moment to unroll the bubble wrap and I couldn’t believe how many items were neatly arranged inside…

MakeupRevMysteryBagMakeupRevMysteryBag2SW MakeupRevMysteryBag3SW

So the items that were included in my mystery bag are…

Item 1. Colour Chaos 18 Exclusive Eyeshadow Palette. The pigments in these colours are just incredible!

Item 2. Radiant Lights Glow

Item 3. The One Blush Stick – Malibu Shade – For Cheeks and/or Lips

Item 4. Amazing Sheer Lip Gloss – shade ‘Hey Girl’

Item 5. Vivid Blush Lacquer in shade ‘Desire’

Item 6. Single Mono Eyeshadow in shade ‘I Won’t Be Alone’

The Products I Use In My Daily Make-up Routine

Women often get asked what their daily routine consists of, so today I have arranged and photographed the contents of my makeup bag for you beauty enthusiasts to have a nose at!

All of the products that I use on an almost daily basis are outlined below. I am going to explain why it is that I use these items and what my honest opinion about them is.

WhatIsInMyMakeUpBagSW
No7 BB Lips Beauty Balm with SPF15
I received this little BB Balm in a set at Christmastime and I was surprised what a lovely shade of pink it turned out to be. I wear this if I want a little bit of colour on my lips but I don’t want to wear a full on lipstick. It’s ideal for shopping and work, a subtle shade and it will protect lips from the sun. I hope the next time I get a No7 gift set there will be one of these inside.

Makeup Revolution Eyeshadow Palette Iconic 3
This is by far one of my favourite palettes. I’m a brunette and have hazel eyes, so the brown, gold and pink shades work perfectly with my complexion and eye colour. This eye shadow is good quality and are not expensive to buy. Unless I need a specific shade to match an outfit, I usually wear the range of colours in this palette. I can recommend both the brand and the size of these eye shadows, they last a good while and the palette is thin enough to pop into most decent sized make-up bags. Makeup Revolution London does a range of them, and they bring out new ones often too.

Rimmel London Soft Kohl Eyeliner Pencil in Black
I have being using Rimmel London eyeliners since I was a teenager. I find the quality to be good and they go far. Black is the colour that I normally use to make my eyes stand out more. Not as an everyday look but if I were going out on date night or out in the evening. I would create this look with the pencil and smoky eye shadow to compliment the outfit.

Rimmel London Wake Me Up Concealer
This little bottle of concealer goes a long way and hides blemishes and dark circles in a matter of seconds. It blends well and I find it to be a staple piece to use when applying my make-up. (I did a review of this and the foundation, see my beauty section).

Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara (Waterproof) in Black
Another staple product that I always reach for is my Max Factor mascara. Not only do I normally wear waterproof to save myself looking like a panda after a long day at work, but I also choose this brand because of the items consistent good quality. I find that this mascara lasts me a long time, because you don’t need to apply a lot of it to get a nice result.

Rimmel London Wake Me Up Anti-Fatigue Foundation
This foundation is fantastic because it not only blends brilliantly, it covers so well. Dark circles and red patches disappear as you smooth this lightweight foundation over your skin. Now I’m not someone who uses a foundation every day, especially if I’m not leaving the house. And I have found that this one doesn’t make my pores feel clogged after using it. (See my individual review for more on this product). It is my current favourite to use when I am in need of applying an overall coverage to my face.

No7 Protect and Perfect Day Cream
This lightweight cream is perfect for a daily moisturiser and gives SPF15 protection to the skin. I use this every morning unless I’m planning a mask or a cleanse. This product works well for my skin, which can sometimes be sensitive, and allows me to use it in confidence. These are the smaller versions I have that go in my handbag and travel bag. My main creams are large tubs that live in the bathroom. It’s great that No7 have these products in a range of sizes, very convenient.

No7 Protect and Perfect Night Cream
I will be completely honest with you, I don’t always apply my night cream, and that is because I don’t like to overload my skin. Moisturising is very important, but you don’t want to make your skin oily because you mess with it too much. With my skin being sensitive, I normally only moisturise at night, two to four times a week. Normally on nights that I haven’t had to get a lot of make-up off my skin first.

Rimmel London Stay Matte Long Lasting Pressed Powder
Would you believe me if I told you I had been using this product for ten years? Well I have been. I adore this powder, it’s not only quick and easy to apply, but it gives a nice coverage so if I have any breakouts or any red patches, they quickly get blended away. I use it most days, and it’s the one thing that I do apply to my skin after moisturising so that I have more colour in my skin tone.

Other products that I use that are not shown on my photograph are:

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water
I use this wonderful water to remove dirt and makeup from my skin, and use it every day to generally clean any impurities off my face and neck. I haven’t tried any other Micellar water related brands because I’m so happy with Garnier, it suits my skin (because it is designed with sensitive in mind).

Nivea Daily Essentials Light Moisturising Day Cream For Dry & Sensitive Skin SPF15
I normally use Nivea face and hand creams in the colder months, because I can suffer from dry skin. While moisturising daily this is reduced to only a handful of days out of the season, and occurs especially if I have spent time outside in a cold biting wind. When I notice the start of any dry skin patches, I reach for this cream, and within a few days my skin is back to its normal behaviour and I am free to use my No7 products again. But Nivea is a brand that I trust, and I have used them since I was a teenager, for face and hand creams as well as body lotions.

Nivea Essential Care Lip Balm
This little lip balm lives on my bedside table, and I put it on my lips every night to keep them soft. I use it all year around and I always have one in my handbag as well, for when I want to protect my lips but I don’t need any colour on them.

I hope you have enjoyed reading about the products that I use. There are so many choices out there, and I think we all know when we have found a favourite, we tend to stick with it. Well I do anyway! I’ve been buying some of the same products for ten years, and I have no shame. The companies must be doing something right if we are all going back for more.
